PAIN AU CHOCOLAT

Sheets puff pastry, cut into 12 squares (thaw first if frozen)
1Large egg beaten with 1 tbsp of water (for the glaze)
4100g bars of dark or milk chocolate, each cut lengthways into six pieces

Method

  • Preheat oven to 200C.
  • Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  • Brush the top side of each puff pastry square with egg glaze.
  • Place 1 chocolate stick on the edge of 1 pastry square.
  • Roll up so that the chocolate is nicely wrapped tightly inside the dough. Repeat 23 more times for the remaining squares.
  • Place pastry rolls on the tray with the seam side down.
  • Finally, brush the tops of the pastry rolls with remaining egg glaze.
  • Sprinkle with a little sugar.
  • Bake pastries for about 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  • The pains au chocolate taste nicest when served warm or at room temperature and, of course, when paired with a delicious cup of Strong English Breakfast.
