Best Easter Games for Kids and Grown-ups

Fun Easter Weekend activities for everyone.

Spring is here and the Easter Weekend is in sight. Whoop whoop. Time to start exploring the best breakfast and brunch ideas - accompanied by the perfect cup of tea, of course.

However, what would a gathering with family or friends be without some really good games? We’ve scoured the web for the best ideas. Here’s a list of our top 10 favourites

EASTER EGG HUNT

A bit of an obvious one BUT … have you got a refined strategy in place that pleases everyone? What to do when older and younger kids are out on the hunt together. The older ones get ahead while the little ones are left with nearly empty baskets. How about assigning each child a specific egg colour or animal to hunt for? Or you could get a few sheets of coloured paper, cut this into a few pieces and write everyone’s name on their dedicated colour. All the kids need to help together to gather say 6 colour cards for every name in order to get their Easter goodie bag.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Colourful paper - one sheet / colour per hunter
  • Pen
  • Easter Treats

ANIMAL CHARADE

Rain or shine – this game can be played in the garden as well as inside. Cut out a pile of little cards and write the name of animals or items associated with Easter on them. Split the party into two teams. Every team has 2 minutes to guess as many words as possible. Whoever guesses the most wins the game.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Pen
  • Paper

EASTER WEEKEND PERFECT CUP OF TEA

TREASURE HUNT

Fill plastic eggs with clues and hide them around the house, in the garden or even in the park. Each egg should contain a little message taking the hunters to the next egg location and eventually to the treasurrrrrre.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Fillable plastic eggs (these can be reused for years to come!)
  • Paper notes
  • Pen
  • Treasure box filled with goodies

PIN THE TAIL ON THE EASTER BUNNY

Draw a picture of the Easter bunny with its tail right in the middle of the picture. The kids take it in turns to be blindfolded, walk towards the picture and to stick their cotton ball as on the tail of the bunny. If you haven’t got different coloured cotton wool balls, then simply write the pinners initials on the spot where their cotton ball was pinned. Whoever pins their ball closest to the bunny’s tail wins the game. Play as many rounds as you like!

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Large piece of paper
  • Pen
  • Blue tack or tape
  • Cotton wool balls
  • Something to blindfold the kids.

EGG RACE

Hard boil the eggs and let everyone paint their own egg – either with paints and brushes (if you’re brave enough to cope with the mess) or with marker pens. Find a steep hill or bit of the road (health & safety small print: don’t block the traffic, be aware of cars and don’t attempt this on a busy road).

‘Ready, Eggy, GO!’ – everyone rolls their egg down the hill and the one that makes it the furthest wins.

For a safer version of this game, make a start and finish line on the grass or floor and let the participants race against each other rolling their egg from start to finish moving forward on all fours whilst only being allowed to touch the egg with their nose.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • One hard-boiled egg per participant
  • Marker pens OR paint and brushes

DRAWING COMPETITION

Split the party into two teams. Every team chooses a designated team member to do the drawing. The teams are given 5 minutes each to guess as many items as possible.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • 2 x list with words that the teams have to guess
  • a blackboard OR a pile of paper and some blue tack
  • some chalk or thick pens

FIND MORE WORDS

This game is great for kids who are already pretty good at reading and writing.

The aim of the game is to make as many words out of the word provided. For example ‘Easter Eggs’ contains the words tea, tree, sea, get, … Set the timer on your phone and whoever finds the most words in the allowed time, is the winner

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Paper
  • Pens
  • List of Easter related words

EASTER BUNNY SAYS

If you’ve ever played ‘Simon Says then you’re all over the rules for this game! A grown-up or older child calls out things they’d like the rest of the group to do. For example “Easter Bunny says: Sit on the floor.” However, the players are only supposed to do as they are told if the phrase ‘Easter Bunny says’ is included. Whoever follows the instruction of the phrase has not been included is out of the game. The last person to remain in the game is the winner.for kids who are already pretty good at reading and writing.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Your imagination

GUESSING GAME

Fill a glass jar with mini eggs. Let people guess the number of eggs in the jar and write their name and their guess on the post-it note. Hand the note to the game master. Whoever gets closest to the actual number wins the jar.

  • Glass jar
  • Lots of mini eggs
  • Post-it notes and pens

EGG AND SPOON RACE

Mark a start and a finish line. Split the group in to two teams. Ready – steady – go. Team members take it in turns to run from the start to the finish line balancing the egg on the spoon without dropping it. Anyone who drops their egg has to go back to the start line and start again. The team who finishes first wins the game.

Depending on how advanced your players are, you could add a little twist by adding obstacles to the race course.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Hard-boiled egg – one per person
  • Tablespoon – one per person

Other game ideas are a Easter sack race dressed up with bunny ears, providing the kids with a box of chalks to draw on the pavement, drawing a bunny on a piece of cardboard and cutting out holes for the kids to take aim and throw their ball through the hole, making your own Easter hat using tape and cut-out paper bunny ears, …
