The origins of tea in China

Where Does It Come From?

This blend comes from China, it is generally found in the Zhejiang or Yunnan province. They are both located on the eastern coastal province of the Peoples Republic of China.

Zhejiang also borders Jiangsu province with Shanghai city to the north and Anhui province to the northwest.

They are both located in areas of China that are extremely hilly. In fact, 70% of Zhejiang’s total area is made up from mountainous terrain.

The altitude there is high and its maximum peak sits with the Huangmaojian Peak which is 1,929 metres above sea level. All these factors make both areas absolutely perfect for creating stunning blends such as the Rosy Fig Flavoured White Loose Tea. Both regions are world renowned for producing beautiful tea blends.

How Is Rosy Fig Flavoured White Loose Tea Made?

This tea is harvested in the springtime, between April and June. The white tea is plucked in the morning before the first dew has settled to preserve its optimum quality and freshness. What the harvesters are looking for is the first fine slivery bud and the first leaf. This is called an Imperial or White Peony Pluck. After they have found their perfect bud, the tea is then lightly oxidised and dried to create the famous white tea look and flavour.

Once the tea is made, it is gently infused with the rose, almond and fig oil. It is then topped off with a smattering of rose petals which complements the rose in the flavour and looks beautiful against the white tea leaves.

Emperor Shen Nung

The Legend Behind Rosy Fig White Loose Tea

This tea has a small story behind it. It is thought that this was originally created as a tribute to the Emperor of China.

The Emperor absolutely loved tea blends and fig, rose and almond infusions were a favourite of his. Therefore, this tea is said to be made in his honour so people could remember him forever.

Brewing, Tasting Rosy Fig Flavoured White Loose Tea

We would recommend using one heaped teaspoon per person, however, if you like your tea strong add in another.

Once you have measured out your tea bring your water to the boil. For this tea the water needs to be at 90 degrees; slightly hotter than usual as this tea needs a little extra help from the water to infuse properly.

When you've added your water, leave it to stand for 4 minutes. This is the perfect opportunity to admire this fabulous tea and watch it dance around the pot.

When your 4 minutes are up, pick your mug and pour...

Choosing Your Teaware

In our video you will see that we used the Kinto Glass One Touch Teapot to brew the Rosy Fig Flavoured White Tea. We believe that using a glass teapot for this blend is absolutely vital.

This tea not only tastes amazing it also looks incredible therefore; using a glass teapot will give you that visual effect.

However, if you want to be more colourful because it is the festive season after all, just make sure that you take a look inside your teapot to see the leaves and rose petals infuse with each other.

We would also recommend using a mug or cup that has a light colouring inside so you can see the beautiful shade of this tea.

The first thing you will notice about this tea is the smell! The gorgeous aromas coming off this blend will overpower you with Christmas tastes and memories.

The fig is the most predominate smell in this tea but you will also be able to pick out the rose and almond scents too.

Once you have finished taking in all the lovely smells, it's time to take your first sip.

The key tasting notes from our master blenders for this particular blend are clear, amber hue, ”heady” exotic combination of floral rose, indulgent fig and sweet hints of almond.

Ultimately we think that this tastes like the definition of a Christmas morning; light but rich, warm and full of festive flavours. If you need help in getting into the Christmas spirit, this will definitely do the trick!

This tea is also perfect after heavy meals; the kind of meal you're likely to enjoy on the big day.
