Celebrating 150 years of trade marks

A mark that stands the test of time

A Mark That Stands The Test of Time

For more than 300 years, the Twinings logo has stood proudly above our shop on London’s Strand. A familiar sight for generations of tea drinkers, it has become far more than a name above a door. It’s a symbol of craftsmanship, quality, and care, a reflection of our people, our heritage and our constant drive to evolve and innovate.

And while so much around it has changed over the centuries, our logo has remained the same. A familiar constant woven into the rituals, routines and moments of pause that have connected people over tea for generations.

Celebrating 150 years of trade marks

To mark 150 years since the creation of the UK trade mark register, the Intellectual Property Office UK launched a campaign to celebrate the brands and symbols that people in the UK know and trust most. The public poll highlighted the logos, packaging and names that have stood the test of time, becoming part of everyday life across generations.

We’re incredibly proud that Twinings has been recognised as the third most iconic trade mark in the UK, as part of the Intellectual Property Office’s 150th anniversary celebrations for the UK trade mark register.

The public poll celebrated the logos, names and packaging that have become woven into the fabric of British culture over generations—placing Twinings alongside some of the nation’s most recognised brands, including Rolls-Royce, Cadbury and MINI.

More than just a logo

As the Intellectual Property Office celebrates its milestone birthday, it’s a reminder that these trade marks are more than identifiers. They are connected with family routines, communities, regional pride, and childhood memories. Providing moments of connection and comfort.

“Twingings [is the] longest unchanged logo, symbolic of a soothing tradition, connecting family and friends”.

We’re incredibly proud to be part of Britain’s tea story, and yours too, remaining a familiar, reassuring presence in the everyday moments that matter most.
