Nambarrie Tea - Nice and Strong!

One of Northern Ireland’s favourite teas - familiar, strong and loved for generations!

Nambarrie was launched back in 1860 and for over 150 years has been our wee country’s beloved bold and hearty tea that can be relied on for the perfect cuppa at any time of the day.

What makes it so “nice and strong”? Nambarrie is a lovely blend of bold Kenyan and Assam teas. Both regions of East Africa and India are famous for producing strong and rich black teas that pack a punch – and the combination of the two is truly unbeatable. This comforting combo has been a staple of every household since its inception and continues to be passed down the generations.

There’s something about a cup of Nambarrie that transports you back to the kitchen tea table of childhood; always warming, always comforting, always a welcome pick me up. Whether it’s the first cuppa of the morning, a truly satisfying tea break from work or a chat with a friend, nothing quite beats a cup of Nambarrie. It’s the perfect warming comforter on your return from a long walk, too. With its rich, caramel brown liquor and homely aroma, it’s no wonder Nambarrie holds such a special place in the heart of Northern Ireland.

In other words: The best of builder’s teas in the world! (We humbly brag).

"A unique blend including the finest Indian & African leaves gives a strong, rich and full flavour. A bold, hearty tea that can be relied on for the perfect cup any time of the day".

Nambarrie Design - A Good Looking Blend

The design of bright bold reds and yellows really reflects the brightness and boldness of Nambarrie tea. The stunning illustrations of Belfast city centre (where Nambarrie was first launched) nestling in the centre of the Northern Irish countryside really evokes the sense of nostalgia for this old favourite. It could well be sunrise or sunset – showing that yet again a cup of Nambarrie is welcome at any time of the day.

Irish Breakfast With Nambarrie Tea

What better way to start your day than with a cup of nice and strong Nambarrie?

Its strength means it goes mouth-wateringly well with your Ulster Fry – the king of breakfast fry ups as we all know. For those who don’t: what makes the Ulster Fry a legend amongst its fellows is the potato bread and soda bread that traditionally accompany it.

And Veda – that delicious malted bread unique to the shores of Northern Ireland, just like Nambarrie.

Nambarrie Responsible Sourcing

At Nambarrie, we have always been committed to sourcing our teas ethically. We regularly visit the tea gardens we source from in India, China, Kenya, Malawi, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Argentina, to get a better understanding of the conditions on the ground and build strong relationships with producers.

Nambarrie Responsible Sourcing

Over 75% of our tea comes from gardens which have been certified by third-party organisations, such as Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade and/or UTZ Certified, which ensure that our teas come from producers who meet internationally-recognized social and environmental standards. We aim to source only from certified gardens by 2020.

In addition, we are a founding and active member of the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) and are committed to only buying from tea estates and producer groups that are participating in the ETP Programme. The ETP is a membership organisation created to improve conditions in the tea sector and bring together the joint leverage of companies with a common interest. The ETP addresses issues in the tea gardens we buy from and the sector as a whole, helping to create a thriving tea industry that is socially just and environmentally sustainable.

We also run and participate in various initiatives in tea communities in China, India, Kenya and Malawi, to contribute to a better life for tea pickers, their families and the environment, from improving access to water and sanitation on tea estates, to supporting women and girls through health and protection campaigns.

Because ethical sourcing is so important to us, our ethical sourcing programme covers every step of the supply chain, including packaging suppliers and our own factory. We have an ethical Code of Conduct and we carry out audits to ensure that suppliers are adhering to this and respecting human rights.
