First created in 1921, this blend of fine and delicate China teas was the then Prince of Wales’ tea of choice. His Royal Highness, the eldest son of George V and Queen Mary, subsequently granted Twinings with special permission for this blend to carry his title and be sold to consumers in the UK.
When in 1936 he became King Edward VIII, Twinings withdrew it from sale in the UK but the Palace gave Twinings permission to continue selling it in a number of international markets, which it still does to this day.
Twinings’ Prince of Wales tea has a nutty character, while being soft and delicate on the palate. Some say it has a slightly smoky aroma, which is a characteristic that comes from where the teas are grown in China. ‘it hasn’t been available for sale in the UK since 1936, but can still be found in many international markets
