Decaffeinated Tea
All teas are made from the Camelia sinensis plant, which naturally contains caffeine – a natural stimulant that is found in lots of plants, including cocoa beans, coffee beans as well as tea leaves. The large majority of herbal infusions and fruit infusion naturally do not contain caffeine. The few exceptions include blends containing Mate or Guarana, which do naturally contain caffeine.
What is Decaf Tea?
Decaffeinated tea is tea that has gone through an additional process where nearly all the caffeine is removed. Minor traces of caffeine tend to remain, but these are at very small levels. In the UK, decaffeinated teas typically do not contain more than 0.2% caffeine. All our decaf teas are rigorously tested to ensure they are comfortably below this level.
What Has More Caffeine, Green or Black Tea?
Both black tea and green tea contain caffeine, however, the content can vary depending on a number of factors – such as the type of tea leaves harvested and the tea production process. One other key factor that affects the amount of caffeine we consume in a typical non-decaffeinated cup of tea is the brewing time. The longer the brewing time, the greater the extraction of caffeine. As green tea is often brewed for less time than black tea, the caffeine content extracted and consumed will be lower. So, if you’re looking to enjoy a lower caffeine option, then green tea is a better choice.
What Types of Decaf Tea Are There?
There are many different decaf teas to choose from if you want to reduce the amount of caffeine in your diet or if, for example, you are just after a drink to enjoy in the evening.
• English Breakfast decaffeinated tea – A golden tea with both strength and body.
• Everyday decaffeinated tea: A lively and refreshing cup.
• Pure green decaffeinated tea: A mild yet with distinctive underlying flavour that leaves you feeling refreshed.
• All Day decaf tea: A well-rounded cup of tea combining strength, flavour and a hint of natural sweetness.
• Earl Grey decaffeinated tea: Zesty and citrus notes complemented by a mild and comforting blend of black teas.
We also have an extensive range of herbal and fruit infusions, which are great naturally caffeine-free alternatives.
How to Enjoy a Cup of Decaf Tea
All our products come with brewing instructions which have been considered and specified by our Master Blenders when designing the blend of ingredients – we recommend you always look out for these when enjoying our products. There are, however, a few key rules we recommend with each and every blend:
• Always use freshly drawn cold water to fill your kettle.
• Never over-boil the water.
• Tea bag first, water second and milk third (if you have it) but only after you followed the recommended brewing time.
