The ritual of Diwali
Homes are cleaned and decorated, candles and diyas (traditional clay oil lamps) lit, and intricate rangoli patterns are created at doorways to welcome prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead.
But beyond the lights and decorations, Diwali is ultimately about bringing people together. Families gather to share stories, enjoy food and meaningful traditions, while communities come alive with celebrations, fireworks and festivities that light up the night sky.
As homes fill with guests, the kitchen often becomes the heart of the celebration. The aroma of warming spices mingles with sweet and savoury treats, and a steaming pot of chai is never far away. Whether welcoming visitors, accompanying a festive feast, or offering a moment of calm between celebrations, chai has become a familiar and comforting part of many Diwali gatherings.
